What is an anonymous sperm donor?
By donating through a licensed fertility clinic you will be an anonymous sperm donor until the child reaches 18 years of age. When the child reaches 18 years of age they will legally be allowed to try and trace your whereabouts.
Many members on this site wish to donate outside of a fertility clinic but maintain their anonymity as both the donor and recipient do not wish for the sperm donor to be involved in the child’s upbringing. Of course if you are carrying out a home insemination procedure you will have to meet your donor in order to receive the sperm sample. This means the donor will not be totally anonymous to the recipient but will be to the child.
We recommend that any members choosing this method ensure their donor produces identification in order for you to match their health and genetic screening tests to ensure they are from the same person. As a sperm donor you should expect your recipient to ask for these details.
